Hogan for Maryland today released the following video message from Governor Larry Hogan in celebration of Juneteenth:
“On Juneteenth, we as Americans are reminded of the triumph of the human spirit over the cruelty of slavery, which was achieved through the courage of extraordinary men and women, great Marylanders like Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman—whose legacies are permanently enshrined in the history of our state.
“I was proud to be the first Maryland governor to recognize Juneteenth and to sign legislation making it an official state holiday.
“May we continue working to realize the vision that Douglass, Tubman, and so many freedom fighters had for Maryland and for our nation.”
