Hogan for Maryland today announced its third co-chair for the “Democrats for Hogan” coalition with a video message from Luiz Simmons, former Democratic State Delegate from Montgomery County.
“I am genuinely concerned about the extremism and polarization in our society today, and especially the increasing polarization and anger in both of our parties. Larry Hogan, to me, represents the best of moderation he brings to public service, and I think also to his private life, an old-fashioned commitment to being a moderate, to being a sensible moderate, to bringing people together, not to pitting people against each other—he’s a straight talker,” Luiz Simmons said. “And genuinely I found him during his eight years as governor to be an extraordinary public servant and someone who is more interested in serving the people of Maryland than any particular ideology or partisan cause. Larry Hogan is in the center and he gives us an opportunity to come back out of the corners and join hands, really for Maryland.”
“Luiz has admirably served our state in both public office in the House of Delegates and in the court of law, and I am glad to have him officially join our growing team as a co-chair of Democrats for Hogan,” Governor Hogan said. “Marylanders know that I have the courage to put people over politics and to put country over party, and a proven track record of reaching across the aisle to find common ground for the common good. In the Senate, I will continue to be the same strong independent leader for Maryland that I always have been.”
The morning after Governor Hogan’s primary election victory, Hogan for Maryland formally announced its “Democrats for Hogan”coalition with a video message from the coalition’s first co-chair, former Democratic State Senator Bobby Zirkin.
At the end of May, announced the coalition’s second co-chair with a video message from Rona Kramer, former Secretary of the Maryland Department of Aging and former Democratic State Senator from Montgomery County.

Governor Hogan is a proven bipartisan and independent leader who works across the aisle for Maryland. For eight years, the governor delivered bipartisan results working with Democratic majorities in the General Assembly. Nationally, he has worked to facilitate bipartisan negotiation in the U.S. Congress—for example, Democratic leaders across the country said Governor Hogan was instrumental in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
