During his remarks this morning, Governor Hogan announced the rollout of his veterans policy plan that outlines how he will fight for Maryland’s veterans in the Senate.
“The freedoms we enjoy as Marylanders and as Americans have been secured by generations of brave men and women who sacrificed so much in defense of our nation and our precious way of life—including the heroes in this room today,” Governor Hogan said. “Today we are proud to release our Veterans policy plan, which includes holding the VA accountable. As governor, I stood up every time politics got in the way of honoring our veterans and that is the exact approach I will bring to the US Senate.”
Governor Hogan’s priorities for Maryland and America’s veterans include:
- Fight to ensure that the VA and their leadership are held accountable and that benefits are directed to those who deserve them.
- Champion initiatives to provide additional support for VA health benefits, caregiver benefits, additional screening for VA employees, and improve memorialization and burial benefits.
- Demand accountability from the VA for flagrant abuse of finances and ensure that funds appropriated for veterans are used to benefit veterans, not senior executives.
- Work to provide jobs for veterans and their spouses who are finishing their service, just as he did as governor.
- Expand federal support for apprenticeships. Maryland is currently not in compliance with federal law allowing military spouses to use their professional licenses in the states where their spouses are stationed. Governor Hogan will fight for our military families and make it a top priority to ensure those who make incredible sacrifices for our freedom do not have their dreams and livelihoods crushed by unnecessary red tape.
