“I appreciate all the small business owners who shared their concerns with me today. Maryland business owners make our Main Streets feel like home, and it’s critical we protect them,” Governor Hogan said. “As Governor, not only did I stop the legislature’s efforts to push a burdensome sales tax on Marylanders, I was proud to implement historic tax relief. We turned a record deficit into a record surplus while cutting taxes every year. That is possible through fiscally responsible leadership, and that’s the same leadership I plan to bring to the United States Senate.”
House Bill 1515, the bill so many Frederick business owners expressed concern about today, would see a $4 billion increase in sales tax revenue by taxing a wide variety of services Maryland entrepreneurs rely on to run their businesses. The tax bill received over 80 letters, calls, and emails of opposition from Frederick business owners.
