Governor Hogan today joined The Hugh Hewitt Radio Show and C4 and Bryan Nehman on WBAL Radio today to talk about bringing decency, bipartisanship and strong, independent leadership to the United States Senate.
The Hugh Hewitt Radio Show
On Being a Maverick and Working Across The Aisle:
“My opponent is trying to make this about just red versus blue. We’re arguably the bluest state in America, more than two to one Democrats or Republicans. … I’m out there talking about the issues that people care about, about their concerns about the economy and crime and the border. We’re feeling really good about where we are right now. …
“We’re in an unusual time in politics and we’ve got a crazy wild 69 more days to go to see what happens. … I think that I’ve got something to contribute, but also I’ve always been a kind of a maverick and I’m willing to work across the aisle to get things done. And that’s how I’ve been successful in this deep blue state.”
On Decency in Politics:
“I think one of the successes for me and this blue state has been people feel as if I’m a regular guy. I try to treat everyone fairly. You can passionately disagree on the issues without demeaning someone or questioning their character or their integrity or their patriotism. I think the way you treat people and tone matters. I think people listen more when you treat them with a little respect.”
C4 and Bryan Nehman
On the New AARP Poll:
“We’ve been working really hard. We’ve got a lot of momentum. We’re working our butts off and we still got a long way to go and the only poll that really matters is the one they take in November. I think we got 69 more days to go, but this is very encouraging.”
On Doing What’s Right For Maryland:
“There’s no one in America who has stood up more, who’s had the courage to stand up, and stand up to the current president, to the former president, to the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing for 10 years and that’s what I’m going to continue to do.
“So I think the voters of Maryland kind of know exactly where I stand. They appreciate a straight shooter that talks about the things they care about and I think they realize I am not a rubber stamp, that I’m not going to be just pushing one agenda or one party or another. I’ve said if they want my vote, they’re going to have to do what’s right for Maryland. And I’ll work with anyone to get the people’s business done.”
On the Issues That Matter Most to Marylanders:
“I’m going to be a key voice of trying to straighten out the mess in Washington. And we’re focused on the issues that we keep hearing about and talking about all over the state.
“We’re talking about accountability, the economy, affordability, the cost of housing, the cost of groceries, how difficult it is for struggling families. We’re talking about crime, which is out of control and rising dramatically for Prince George’s County—100% increase in murders and 500% increase in carjackings. And we’re talking about securing the border and fixing the broken immigration system. For us, it’s about the issues.”
