Governor Hogan Meets With Longshoremen and Marine Engineers to Discuss Union Priorities
Hogan for Maryland today announced the official endorsement of International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1429, representing longshoremen at the Port of Baltimore. This is the second union endorsement Governor Hogan has received from Baltimore longshoremen following the endorsement of ILA Local 333, and seventh official union endorsement Hogan for Maryland has announced to date.
“ILA Local 1429 is proud to endorse Governor Hogan in his campaign for the United States Senate. We are glad to have a fighter for longshoremen at the Port of Baltimore and across the state working for us in the Senate, especially with the unprecedented challenges that lie ahead as we rebuild,” said ILA Local 1429 President Troy Nilsen.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of ILA Local 1429 and six other key unions so far. I’m humbled by the support of the hardworking men and women who keep Maryland moving, and look forward to working with them to ensure the Port of Baltimore has a bright future ahead,” Governor Hogan said.
Ahead of the announcement, Governor Hogan spent the afternoon with the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association (MEBA) and International Longshoremen’s Association Local 333, touring the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in Easton, Maryland. The Calhoon MEBA Engineering School is a private maritime educational facility, a valuable training facility for the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association and all maritime and related industry professionals.
Governor Hogan received MEBA’s endorsement earlier this month. MEBA is the nation’s oldest maritime labor union representing officers of the United States Merchant Marines.
