Hogan for Maryland released the following statement from Governor Hogan in response to Vice President Harris’s announcement in support of ending degree requirements for federal jobs:
“I commend Vice President Harris for committing to end unnecessary degree requirements for many federal jobs. During my last year as governor, when we became the first state in America to remove college degree requirements for state jobs, it led to an immediate 41% increase in skills-based hires. A number of governors–including Gov. Shapiro in Pennsylvania–have followed our lead.
“A prestigious degree must not be the only pathway to the American Dream. By tearing down the paper ceiling, we can open opportunities to millions of worthy people, and bring common sense back to our labor force. My plan calls for shifting the federal government away from inflexible and increasingly meaningless job classifications and extending those reforms to federal contractors. In the Senate, I will lead the charge and work across the aisle to get this done.”
