Hogan for Maryland Meets with Tilghman Watermen, Announces Chesapeake Bay Agenda

Following a day spent with watermen on Tilghman Island, Hogan for Maryland announced Governor Hogan’s plan to build on the Hogan administration’s efforts to restore the Chesapeake Bay.

“The Chesapeake Bay is a national treasure, and our administration was proud to invest over $8 billion—record high levels of funding—in restoration efforts. But the work’s not done. After meeting with watermen and hearing about everything they’re faced with, from the repercussions of climate change to overbearing federal regulations, I know there is so much more I can do. As Maryland’s next United States Senator, I’ll build on these efforts and enact my plan to ensure this storied piece of Maryland’s history is a part of our bright future as well,” Governor Hogan said.

Today, Governor Hogan met with watermen on Tilghman Island to see firsthand the effects of his administration’s efforts to clean up the Chesapeake and discuss how Gov. Hogan can build on these efforts as Senator.

This included checking out the Wittman Wharf Catfish Operation, where Tilghman Island watermen are ridding the Chesapeake of invasive catfish while also supporting local jobs and the seafood industry. He also visited the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum.

In 2022, the Hogan admin gave Hall and Mary Kellogg, the founders of the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum, a Governor’s Citation Award for Lifetime Achievement for preserving the legacy and history of watermen.

Governor Hogan continues to announce bipartisan, common-sense solutions as part of his Strong Independent Leadership Tour—including on crimeretireessmall businessesveteranseducationworkforce initiatives, and affordability.
