In recent comments on the “Your Voice, Your Future” town hall series, Governor Moore called out sanctuary policies like the one administered by Prince George’s County as “violating federal law.”
During her first year in office, County Executive Alsobrooks announced that Prince George’s County would refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement. Under her policy, Prince George’s County has released violent criminals, sex offenders, and violent gang members who are here illegally and refused to inform federal law enforcement who have requested detainers on these violent felons.
Just last week, another violent criminal wanted overseas for homicide and arms trafficking was detained in College Park, where he has been living. Meanwhile, County Executive Alsobrooks is doubling down on her policy.
As Governor Moore said, “This isn’t about immigration or immigrants, this is about people who break the law.”
Background Information

- County Executive Alsobrooks Announced That The County Would Only Assist ICE Under Two Circumstances. “County officials said the only two elements that will trigger county cooperation with ICE are individuals targeted for federal immigration enforcement who are involved in either gangs or violence… ‘In the case of an individual who has been charged with or convicted of a gang-related crime or a crime of violence: in that instance, when the person is released from our department of corrections, we will simply notify ICE of the person’s release, and that’s only in the case of a person who’s been either charged with or convicted of a gang-related offense or a violent offense,’ said Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.” (Dick Uliano, “Prince George’s County Sets Limits On Cooperating With ICE,” WTOP, 6/26/19)
Alsobrooks’ Sanctuary Policies Have Led to the Release of Gang Members and Violent Criminals. “The largest remaining sanctuary jurisdiction in Maryland is Prince George’s County, which has a well-documented history of shielding illegal immigrants from federal agents.” (Gary Collins, “Prince George’s Co. - Prince George’s County Released An MS-13 Member And Sex Offender: “The federal immigration enforcement office announced in December 2020 that it had arrested two criminal illegal immigrants after they were repeatedly released by Prince George’s County, despite the suspects having issued detainers. Despite being known to Laurel police, a suburban city in Prince George’s County, immigration officials were not notified. The warrant against Corrales-Ramirez was obtained by Laurel police for allegedly stabbing a Hispanic victim. Corrales-Ramirez is currently awaiting sentencing in an unrelated murder conviction in Troy, N.Y.” (Gary Collins, “Prince George’s Co.
