Hogan for Maryland this week launched a slate of four billboards focused on affordability and cost of living challenges facing Marylanders as additional taxes and fees go into effect statewide. The billboards will be up along Route 50 on the Eastern Shore, and will be up throughout the summer.
Last week, Governor Hogan announced a five-point plan to make life more affordable in Maryland during a press conference near the Bay Bridge.
“This is the number one issue I hear about every day—Marylanders are fed up with high prices, and folks will be feeling the pain of these prices throughout the summer, whether it be driving to the Shore or just buying groceries. Now, the state is further burdening them with hundreds of new taxes and fees. It doesn’t have to be this way,” Governor Hogan said. “Now more than ever, Marylanders need strong independent leadership fighting for them to address sky high inflation and out-of-control costs and make life in Maryland more affordable.”
On Monday, Governor Hogan joined WBFF to discuss the new taxes and fees that went into effect.
“I think we’re in tough shape. I left the $5.5 billion surplus—which was the largest in state history—and now they’re billions of dollars in debt and as a result they are trying to raise more than 300 different new fees and taxes, many of which start today believe it or not,” Governor Hogan said on WBFF. “It’s now been a year and a half and they haven’t taken those actions. We’re now in the worst shape we’ve been in 10 years. It’s going back to the days of Martin O’Malley where you have multi billion dollar deficits and hundreds of new taxes which are taking effect today.” Click here to watch the full interview.
Governor Hogan’s five-point affordability plan includes:
- Provides historic tax relief for small businesses, retirees, first responders, and small businesses
- Accelerates housing construction to unlock the dream of home ownership for middle class families
- Reduces the out-of-control cost of health care
- Helps Marylanders afford a quality education
- Blocks unaffordable federal spending and mandates that raise the cost of energy, food, and basic necessities.
